Jig- A hook with a lead that is usually dressed with hair, silicone, or plastic
Keel - The bottom center of the hull, running the entire length
Keeper - Any fish that conforms to a specific minimum length limit established by the state fisheries department
Lipless Crank baits - Artificial baits that may vibrate, wobble and/or rattle, designed to resemble a swimming bait fish
Live well - A container filled with water and often equipped with accessories such as lighting and aeration, used to hold and transport live fish
Mid ship - Approximately equal distance between the bow and stern
Moor - To secure a boat with lines
Nautical Mile - Approximately 6076 feet, about 1/8 longer than the status mile of 5280 feet
Outboard - A detachable engine mounted on the stern of the boat
Personal Flotation Device (PFD) - The official term for a life jacket
Planing - When a boat is moving over the top of the water rather than through the water
Port - The left side of the boat as you face forward
Propeller - The blades attached to the motor that propel the boat
